Chicago Pride, United States

Description

The parade runs south from Uptown through Lakeview and into Lincoln Park, starting at Broadway and Montrose and finishing near Diversey and Sheridan — over a million people along the route each year, more than a hundred and fifty marching groups moving through Northalsted, the first neighbourhood in the country to carry an official LGBTQ+ designation, since 1997. Pride Fest fills Halsted Street the weekend before — beer gardens and drag stages, block after block of it, in the particular heat of a Chicago June — and the week around it carries its own run of smaller dates besides.

The Programme

  • The Parade — Sunday from 11am, starting at Broadway and Montrose, moving south through Lakeview into Lincoln Park, finishing near Diversey and Sheridan.

  • Pride Fest — the weekend before, on Halsted Street between Addison and Grace, 11am to 10pm both days: several stages, upward of a hundred and fifty food and merchandise stalls, drag and dance performances, and a pet parade.

  • Andersonville Midsommarfest — mid-June, a long-running neighbourhood festival with its own Pride stage.

  • Pride at Wrigley Field — a Cubs game built into the week, with LGBTQ+-owned businesses and local artists on site.

  • Navy Pier Pride — an evening of live music and community stalls on the pier.

  • Back Lot Bash — a women-focused block party in Andersonville.

  • Pride South Side — held the following week, at the DuSable Black History Museum.
