Millions gather on Avenida Paulista for what is by most counts the world’s largest Pride parade — fourteen trios elétricos moving from the MASP museum through Consolação to Praça Roosevelt from mid-morning, with upward of a hundred performers working through the trucks in turn. It falls on the Sunday closing the Corpus Christi long weekend each year, equal parts protest and party, carried by Brazil’s queer culture and its long history of activism. It’s an event on a scale nothing else on this list quite matches.

The Programme

• The Parade — Sunday closing the Corpus Christi long weekend, gathering from 10am at the MASP museum on Avenida Paulista, moving through Consolação to Praça Roosevelt, with fourteen trios elétricos and performances running into the evening.

• Semana do Orgulho — the week before carries its own run of cultural programming across the city, exhibitions and screenings building toward parade Sunday.

For the parade, Rosewood São Paulo sits a walk from Avenida Paulista in Bela Vista, set inside the old Matarazzo maternity hospital with a garden tower rising above it.
